Why make arrangements to mitigate against the effects of disruptions?

In an increasingly inter-dependent world, where unexpected events may have extraordinary, expensive knock-on effects, there is a growing need for private and public sector bodies to plan in case of a disruption (such as a flood or power outage).  These types of disruptions are becoming increasingly common. 

Stakeholders expect that those delivering services and / or supplying goods should be able to do so “come what may”.  These increasing expectations have been recognized by changes in the law so that there might be personal liabilities attached to those in positions of authority who fail to reach the required standards let alone the potentially large liabilities and losses which have to be faced by an organisation itself.

With good plans, procedures and arrangements in place, “business as unusual” will be possible until normality is restored without everything simply grinding to a halt in the interim. 
  
With the 2012 Games now very much on the radar, the UK Government realise that national security needs to improve.  With the eyes of the world on London, there is no better time than now to invest in resilience and be better prepared to cope should the Games themselves throw up wide-ranging and unexpected challenges.
